This May Put You Off Shark Cage Diving

A rather remarkable video has emerged on YouTube, showing a great white breaking into one of those underwater cages designed specifically to keep sharks outs. There was a guy inside at the time.

He got a little more than he bargained for on his Guadalupe Island diving trip, as you can see in the clip below.

“They are temporarily blinded when they open their mouths, so when the shark went for the tuna bait on the rope it accidentally slammed into the cage,” reads the description alongside the video, uploaded by a YouTuber who only ever posts updates about his sons. Ever so slightly off-brand.

“They can’t swim backwards so it thrust forward through the cage with a diver inside.”

The diver fortunately emerged from the cage unharmed, though you can see blood streaming from the gills of the poor shark, which did well to find its way out so quickly.

Just to think, I actually flinched watching The Deep on PlayStation VR. [YouTube via Guardian]
