Facebook Adds Proper Games to Messenger

By Gary Cutlack on at

Facebook is adding more to its already packed Messenger app, and this is quite the seismic change -- proper games are coming to the chat portal's mobile apps and desktop sites along with group score tracking to keep track of who's best.

Starting from today, people chatting away should see the option to challenge their friends to a game of something via the new Instant Games tab, with the likes of Words with Friends, Zookeeper, Galaga and Space Invaders flagged up as a handful of the launch titles -- with more to come in the future.

Facebook says it'll be available on "newer" versions of the iOS and Android systems, with the resulting scores shared within any Messenger groups you've assembled. A simple controller icon inside the chat window pops up the gaming menu and from there the action begins. There will be league tables to keep track of who's best too, ensuring that people spend even more of their lives fiddling with Facebook-branded content windows.
