You’ll almost certainly never be as happy as this chap, who managed to bag a OnePlus 3T before you. Unless, of course, you happen to be this chap, in which case we’re truly happy for you, and don’t despise you in the slightest.
As was the case for the OnePlus 3, O2 has been chosen as the UK’s exclusive carrier for the OnePlus 3T, and decided to celebrate gazumping its rivals by holding a one-day pop-up event at its Oxford Street store on November 24th. That’s last Thursday, a weekend and then some ahead of the handset’s official November 28th release.
Kicking off at 3.02pm -- we’ll allow you to break that code on your own -- the promotional jamboree saw a bunch of people with heightened organisational senses, people who actually paid attention to O2’s pre-event announcement and created a Google Calendar reminder, people who happened to be in London and have that particular afternoon off, queue up for a few hours and actually TOUCH and BUY the OnePlus 3T four days early.
Alexandru Girbo, the especially fortunate so-and-so who found himself at the front of the queue, bagged himself a free model simply by having less things to do on that particular Thursday afternoon. To be fair to him, he did put some effort in.
“I can’t believe that I’m the first person in the country to get my hands on the OnePlus 3T – and to be given it for free!” he said, presumably once he’d got all the swear words out of his system. “It’s fantastic that O2 have given us fans the chance to get the phone early, I even travelled from Oxford to be here and it was well worth the trip -- I can’t wait to try it out.”
The others had to, ahem, settle for free t-shirts, backpacks, travel bags and other such OnePlus-branded merchandise.
The 3T itself is looking like yet another blockbuster from OnePlus. The all-metal handset features a 5.5-inch, Full HD AMOLED display, a 2.35GHz Snapdragon 821 processor paired with a monstrous 6GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel main camera and a 3,400mAh battery with Dash Charge. It comes in 64GB and 128GB options and is available from a frankly remarkable £399.
This chap also managed to get his hands on the 3T early, but they made him do an unboxing video in a fighter jet. We’d recommend plugging your headphones in before hitting play, as there’s a whole lot of moaning going on.
