A company called Schréder claims to have installed Britain’s first Wi-Fi streetlight today, positioning the Shuffle light outside the stadium of a sports organisation I’ll only refer to as Franchise FC. It’s based in Milton Keynes.
The fancy bit of street tech, which Schréder describes as an “interactive column”, stands outside Franchise FC’s box office and club shop, and provides:
- 360-degree LED lighting
- Matchday announcements (through a speaker)
- Wi-Fi connectivity
It looks quite nice for a streetlight. The Shuffle’s CCTV system and PA speaker are both connected to Franchise FC’s control room to allow instant access and remote control, and Schréder says the streetlight can be upgraded “at any point” to add extra features, such as charging and some sort of high-tech advertising.
Lucky Franchise FC fans.
