Apple May Add "Cinema Mode" to iOS 10.3

By Gary Cutlack on at

Constant rumours suggest Apple is preparing something called "Theater Mode" -- hopefully renamed Cinema Mode for the UK -- which will deaden certain mobile features and allow its users to carry on being on their phones even when within the confines of the local movie house.

Instead of turning the phone off altogether so you can concentrate on seeing CG superheroes destroying CG skyscrapers, the mode is said to only turn off the sound and lower the brightness level of the screen to a minimum, so you can post Instagram photos of your massive bag of Minstrels, the back of a man's head, or copyright-infringing snippets of the action while keeping half an eye on the action, should Apple allow the cameras to be active when in this new dark/stealth mode.

The rumour comes from Sonny Dickson, who's been both right and wrong about things in the past. He says it'll appear within the iOS 10.3 beta 1 release, which should arrive early next week, bringing him either mass validation or branding as a liar. That's what you get for putting yourself out there. [Twitter]
