Phone maker Huawei used its presence at CES to announce a plan to launch the Huawei Mate 9 in the US, and there's one key difference between the version we got and the one they're getting -- the US model will have Amazon's Alexa assistant thing built in from day one.
It's a quite odd decision, seeing as Google usually handles the voice features on Android. Imagine having two useless voice assistants on your phone. That's 2017 for you. The good news, if you can call it that, is that existing Mate 9 owners will get Alexa too, with the feature coming as part of an update to the current model for owners outside of the US.
Amazon's probably happy to get some extra exposure through one of the world's fastest growing smartphone makers, with Huawei promising some "rich voice activated consumer experiences" to come for people who bother will all that talking-to-your-phone business. [Huawei]
