If in Doubt, Say "Henrik Larsson"

By Gary Cutlack on at

Even if you don't know football, you probably know a few footballers. Gary Lineker, for example. Paul Gascoigne, he was another one. That bald Italian one who always wore black, did lots of running about but never scored, he was great he was. But would guessing a name be enough to win big on a TV quiz sports round?

It was for one lady on BBC quiz Pointless, but only because she'd been given a tip. Her boyfriend told her to say "Henrik Larsson" should any football questions come up, as he's been about a bit and done it all. So she did. And what do you know:

She only went and won. The question was to do with goalscorers at Euro 2000, to which Larsson was a correct and obscure answer. She explained afterwards: "My boyfriend Alex is a massive Celtic supporter and he knows that I'm rubbish with names and things like that so he said, anything football-related -- he's played for Man U, he's played for Celtic and Barcelona, I think -- he just said go for Henrik Larsson. And it's paid off." [YouTube via BBC]
