Finally, some good news for Brexit Britain: the company behind Snapchat is actively growing its London office, their largest outside the US. The company, now known as Snap Inc since diversifying into wearables, says that Britain's creative culture led them to make the decision to establish a base here. Well, it certainly wasn't the climate (economic or otherwise).
Snap's general manager commented to The Guardian that "The UK is where our advertising clients are, where more than 10m daily Snapchatters are, and where we’ve already begun to hire talent." To that end, there are lots of London-based job postings on the company's careers page, including vacancies for lawyers, software engineers, graphic designers and even a German-speaking on-demand geofilter support specialist, whatever that is.
Considering Snap Inc bills itself as a "camera company," so far the jobs on offer don't seem to involve much hardware - but then no one was really expecting a social media company to trounce Google Glass with a pair of affordable sunglasses sold in vending machines, and here we are. Whatever's coming next for the bright yellow brand, some of it will be coming out of the UK. God save our Spectacles. [The Guardian]
