Confirmed: The Crystal Maze Is Back In 2017 And You're Already Writing Your Application

If you watched the Countdown episode of The IT Crowd and thought Moss would make an amazing gameshow host, you're in luck. Richard Ayoade has signed up to host Channel 4's new series of The Crystal Maze, coming later this year, reports Buzzfeed.

After a live event smashed its crowdfunding goal in 2015, it makes sense to bring back the much-missed format to mainstream TV. The new 30,000-square-foot maze will be situated in Bristol, created by the same designer and containing the same zones: Aztec, Futuristic, Industrial and Medieval. Plus, of course, the Crystal Dome of dreams.

Will contestants still jump around waving their arms in the air even though most of the golden tokens are at the bottom? Will Ayoade play a ditty on the harmonica? Will someone get locked in and forgotten about until their skeletal remains are discovered by Mumsy on her next cleaning round? Will the "reworked" theme tune be anywhere near as good as the original? All this remains to be seen.

But this much we know: the Maze is coming back for 20 one-hour episodes this year, and with that news alone 2017 has beaten all of 2016 put together. [Buzzfeed]
