It's currently untitled, but it's official: filming of the Han Solo Star Wars Story officially began this week at London's Pinewood Studios.
The film is set before the storyline of Star Wars: A New Hope, following the adventures of Han Solo and Chewbacca, including their early shenanigans with Lando Calrissian.
The film is being co-directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller – of LEGO Movie and LEGO Batman Movie fame. Producer credits go to Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel, with some of the hottest industry talent working behind the scenes, including Director of Photographer Bradford Young, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on last year's Arrival.
There are some big names in the casting list, too. While a full cast list has yet to be announced, Alden Ehrenreich (Jasmine, Beautiful Creatures and Hail, Ceasar!) takes the lead as Han Solo with Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. Woody Harrelson is to star as Garris Shrike, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and both Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke and Thandie Newton are credited with roles yet to be disclosed.
The as-yet untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story is set to release in May 2018, so it's still pretty far, far away... (Sorry.)
