After the sad closure of the enormous HMV at 150 Oxford Street in 2013, the iconic brand moved back to its original digs further up the road with a retro-styled His Master's Voice branch. Now, that branch is also to close, Retail Gazette reports.
The music retailer swapped placed with Sports Direct after the company began administration four years ago, with its huge flagship store becoming a somewhat rundown sporting apparel outlet. HMV has had an address on Oxford Street for 96 consecutive years, excluding two spent unable to trade because of fire damage.
The original branch, opened in 1921 at 363 Oxford Street, is now in lease negotiations with Savills - with no word yet on what will replace the gramophone-emblazoned storefront. Perhaps a branch of Amazon? [Retail Gazette]
