HTC Vive got a big endorsement today as Warner Bros Pictures announced that it'll be the official partner for all VR content for Ready Player One – calling it the "best system to represent the future of VR" in the process.
The Spielberg adaptation of Ernest Cline's 2011 sci-fi novel is set to be released this time next year, and it sounds like there'll be lots of Vive content around the launch. Some will be released for lucky gits with their own headset through Viveport, and some will be at "the biggest global consumer events through the year."
Given that Ready Player One is about virtual reality, it's a pretty big deal for Vive to be named official partner, and even moreso for Warner Bros to come out and say they're the best. Here's the quote in full, from Blair Rich, Warner Bros Pictures President, Worldwide Marketing:
"The virtual reality world within Ready Player One is extremely advanced, sophisticated and engaging, and with Vive, we chose the best system to represent the future of VR.
Vive is the perfect partner to bring that to life and also has the broadest reach to global markets for the use of VR in home, mobile and offline channels."
Take that, Oculus.
