You Can Now Search Sky By Saying "I'll Have What She's Having"

By Holly Brockwell on at

As we were promised earlier in the year, Sky has added voice search to its Sky Q service, and it comes with some fun extras for showing off when your friends come over.

The feature includes a set of movie quote Easter eggs, so you can search for particular films by doing your best impression of their most famous line. For instance:

  • "You had me at hello"
  • "Houston, we have a problem"
  • "You can't handle the truth!"
  • "Say hello to my little friend"
  • "I'll have what she's having"
  • "My preciouusssssss"

However, Sky tells us that the quotes "have to be word perfect" and they also have to actually have the film available. Tricky.

You can also perform more standard searches, like the name of an actor, director, film or TV show, or ask for things like "action movies with Tom Cruise" or "films with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt" (ugh) or "Christian Bale movies rated five stars" (that's all of them, if you ask me).

For sports, you can ask for "the Liverpool game" or "live cricket on this weekend," as well as asking "What's on [channel] tonight?" to see listings.

Luke Bradley-Jones, Sky brand director of TV and content products (that's a long email signature), says:

"'May the force be with you' with your new voice search. Just ask Sky Q to 'show me the money' by pressing the side of the touch remote, making it even easier and faster to find, discover and watch the TV you love.”

Voice search hasn't rolled out to all Sky Q customers yet but it'll be with them by "the end of Spring," so before the end of May. To use it, hold down the voice button on the side of the touch remote and speak into the microphone below the Sky button. If you don't have a touch remote, you can get one here.
