There will be an outbreak of manboobs and failed social interactions among the confident elite athletes at the 2022 Asian Games, as the event is set to award medals in a variety of esports for the first time.

The 2022 Asian Games takes place in Hangzhou, China, with the Games usually offering your more Olympic-style event mixture of rowing, horsey jumping, archery, fencing, pentathlon and other classic sporting events. Only in 2022  they're going to need to find a dark and damp village hall to host lots of men and their gaming rigs, as the Olympic Council of Asia has decided it's time to take into account "...the rapid development and popularity of this new form of sports participation."

A teaser will be on offer next year when the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta hosts a demonstration esports event, with a 2017 demo at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games to feature competitive FIFA 2017 alongside some other multiplayer battle and strategy business. [BBC]
