The numbers are in, and it looks like Samsung's got the big hit it needed in the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Carphone Warehouse data shows that preorders for the new phone are 43% higher than in the equivalent period for the S7 – and that was before the Note 7 problems started. In other words, Samsung hasn't just bounced back, it's bounced higher.
Preorder data also shows that almost a third of customers have gone for the bigger S8 Plus over the regular size. It'll be interesting to see if lots of them swap for the smaller one later, as happened when the iPhone first went big and people realised they couldn't, in fact, handle it.
Carphone's MD Jeremy Fennell comments:
"The Samsung S8 has certainly impressed, we’ve had one of our busiest weekends for customers coming into store and we’ve seen an increase of 43% for pre-orders when compared with the S7.
Black is proving to be the colour of choice for most, whilst over 30% of customers are opting to go big with the S8 Plus.
Consumers are truly excited about the S8, and having devices in store for customers to play with and experience straight after the Unboxing has been key to driving pre-order sales, the Infinity screen is a huge hit."
