The driver of one of those modern "smart" cars ended up in trouble over the weekend, after he was involved in an accident. The accident was reported to the police in Northern Ireland by the man's own car, enough evidence to place him at the scene and tag him as the driver.
Apparently he was driving a model of Ford Fiesta with Ford's own Emergency Assistance option fitted to it. This is a communications tool that lets the car contact emergency services in the event it's involved in a heavy crash that's set the airbag off. Which is nice, unless you've been drinking and were hoping to crawl out of the wreckage, go home for a sandwich and three pints of water, then conduct an excuse for what happened the next day.
A post by the Police Service of Northern Ireland's Craigavon unit explained: "...a CAR phoned us to let us know about a crash last night when it turned out the driver was drunk. You think you're having a rough weekend? At least your car hasn't touted on you!" [PSNI via The Times]

Unfortunately their solution still requires willpower
Superimpose Vin Diesel’s head into one of the cars and you could easily pass this off as the next Fast and Furious flick.
