Breaking: Star Wars Rebels' Ahsoka Has Not Suddenly Transformed Into a Giant Wolf

By James Whitbrook on at

Yes, Rebels head honcho Dave Filoni has seemingly confirmed some very important news about Ahsoka Tano’s role in the fourth and final season of Star Wars Rebels. Mainly that for the love of god no, she’s not a wolf. Confused? You absolutely should be. Buut allow us to explain...

Ever since Star Wars Celebration a few months ago, and Filoni’s confirmation that Ahsoka would appear in the final season of Rebels, fans have been going buck wild with the idea that the giant wolves seen in the recent trailer are, in fact, a new form Ashoka has taken on after her stay in the Sith temple on Malachor after season two. Basically, their thought process seems to be like this:

  • Dave Filoni loves wolves
  • He helped create Ahsoka and she is one of his favourite characters
  • Dark Side Nonsense
  • ?????
  • AHSOWOLF TANO CONFIRMED

Shortly after Celebration, /Film did a pretty great roundup of all the evidence for this admittedly hilariously absurd theory, covering everything from a series of sketches Filoni drew for the Star Wars digital trading card app depicting what happened to Ahsoka immediately after the end of Rebels season two, to even a seeming link that would tie Ahsoka’s role in a Clone Wars arc involving the planet Mortis, home to physical embodiments of the light and dark sides of the Force.

Ostensibly, Ahsoka would have somehow transcended her physical body after her battle with her former master, and thus return in season four as a giant wolf to help Kanan and Ezra in their quest to liberate Lothal. Yeah, it’s crazy.

But worry no more! Filoni decided to celebrate his birthday yesterday with a wonderful piece of artwork he posted to Twitter, dubbed as “a gift, and perhaps a clarification”:

So there you have it. Ahsoka Tano: Not the wolf.

...unless Filoni is lying. Maybe under orders from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Maybe this is just the tip of a major Star Wars conspiracy where all the characters, heroes and villains alike, will be turned into wolves, and Episode IX will be dialogue-free except for growls. How can we possibly know for sure?! Maybe we’ll get real proof when Rebels’ final season returns this autumn.
