US TV Creator Apologises for Trump With Free Pints

By Gary Cutlack on at

David Simon, a name you might remember popping up during the credits of cult US TV show The Wire, has tried in his own little way to ensure the "Special Relationship" between the UK and his home country survives the current political quagmire. He bought random British people pints to apologise for his people inflicting Trump on the world.

In fact, it was his first thought for something to do when he first arrived in the UK, although there weren't many takers when he first tried this at 11am on a work day. Undeterred, he made a second effort to make Britain drunk again later that night, tweeting that he'd be at The Crown in Covent Garden with a card behind the bar ready to take orders from Londoners wanting to drink political pain away.

The next day he tweeted the results at Trump himself, saying: "I stood in a London pub last night & spend hundreds of pounds buying pints, apologizing for your venal ignorance." [Standard]
