No matter how hard you wish upon that star, you're never going to meet one Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn — or simply 'Rembrandt', as the kidz like to call him. That's mainly because the legendary Dutch artist died in 1669. Don't be too glum though, because thanks to Oculus Gear VR, you can now meet the famous painter in the reality-augmented flesh.

Oculus has joined together with Samsung and virtual reality developer Force Field for Meeting Rembrandt: a VR experience that whisks you back to 17th-century Amsterdam, whereby the great man proceeds to give you a guided tour of his old timey studio. Here's a short blurb from the official Oculus site:

You are there! Travel back in time and feel what life might have been like in 1642 during the Dutch Golden Age. Go inside the house of Rembrandt to get a glimpse into the life of one of the most famous painters of all time.

Be a part of the movie as Rembrandt responds to your actions bringing an extra level of immersion to the experience. The rich environment you enter into is visually stunning because of the unique techniques used to heighten the quality to the highest level possible on the Samsung Gear VR.

Excite your eyes by watching a short teaser for the virtual reality experience below:

Pretty neat, no?

Meeting Rembrandt is now available as a free download, though you'll obviously need Samsung's Gear VR headset and a compatible phone (like the Galaxy S8) to run it.
