We already know from the movies that at any moment, we will wake from our cosy reality to discover ourselves geriatric prisoners having spent our lives at the hands of robots who force feed us ice cream to an ironically chipper 1950's jingle. Do we really need a reminder?
Halo Top, maker of low-calorie ice cream, thinks so. It’s commissioned video artist Mike Diva, best known for Japanese Donald Trump Commercial, an intentionally oppressively adorable video game-esque advertisement for presidential candidate Donald Trump. In that vein, it markets its product as part of a dystopian inevitability which is nice at first, and then a prison of madness.
“People keep comparing it to Black Mirror, which I love,” Halo Top CEO Justin Woolverton, according to delish. “I love dystopian, I love sci-fi. I like how it makes you wonder, ‘what’s going on?’ ‘what’s happening next?’”
The old lady–who is also you, and who is also me, a figment of your imagination–does not know.
So she screams. She screams for ice cream.
I also scream because it’s scary. Check out the video below.
