Radiohead & Hans Zimmer Team up for the BBC's Blue Planet II

By Gary Cutlack on at

Really quite wildly differing musical artists Radiohead and Hans Zimmer have both signed up to provide a tune for the BBC's latest nature phenomenon, with undersea delight Blue Planet II set to benefit from their music.

And yes, they're doing it together. Radiohead and Zimmer are recording a full orchestral interpretation of the former's track Bloom from The King of Limbs, which is to form the backing for a five-minute introductory prequel/trailer to the full series, which will be stuck online through BBC Worldwide on September 27.

The variant of the track will henceforth be known as (Ocean) Bloom, with Thom from the band explaining: "Bloom was inspired by the original Blue Planet series so it’s great to be able to come full circle with the song and reimagine it for this incredible landmark sequel. Hans is a prodigious composer who effortlessly straddles several musical genres so it was liberating for us all to work with such a talent and see how he wove the sound of the series and Bloom together." [BBC]
