If Netflix's immense popularity has brought us one thing, and one thing only, it's the rise of binge-watching a series when it first comes out. All the episodes arrive at once, so you might as well watch them in quick succession. While Netflix is very secretive about exact viewing figures, but it's revealed that Marvel team-up series The Defenders is one of its most-binged series.
Netflix has finally released some meagre statistics about its services, which reveals that The Defenders is behind only Fuller House and Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life when measuring how many people watched the whole season within 24 hours of release. Apparently none of the other Marvel movies made it into the top 20, though that might be down to the fact that The Defenders is roughly eight hours long whereas the others are 13.
This is still a bit surprising, considering The Defenders reportedly only had 17 per cent of the total viewership that Daredevil Season 2 got in its first 30 days. It would, however, explain why the viewership figures dropped so rapidly (declining by 67%, 48%, and then 31% over the first few weeks). Everyone had already seen it, so they didn't need to watch it again.
Netflix also revealed that there are 8.4 million people who have watched at least one season within 24 hours of launch (guilty), a number that has grown by 20 times since 2012. There are also five dedicated people have watched all new episodes of House of Cards within 24 hours of release. Go on, show yourselves Kevin Spacey-lovers. We won't judge.
