How Did Ireland Entertain Itself During Hurricane Ophelia? By Watching Porn

By Tom Pritchard on at

Remember last week? While we English (and possibly Welsh) people were staring at the pretty, possibly apocalyptic skies, Ireland was heading into the worst storm the country had seen for a very long time. The country was shut down as a result, with everyone being warned to stay indoors. How do you stay entertained when you're inside all day? You watch porn.

I'm not actually joking, because Pornhub noticed a massive spike in traffic from Ireland on October 16th (last Monday). According to the sites team of statisticians, the site received unprecedented levels of traffic starting as early as two o'clock in the morning. At that time traffic was up by 48 per cent, and between the hours of 8am and 4pm it 53 per cent above average.

If you looked anywhere online in the run up to the storm you could see Irish people cracking jokes about Ophelia, so I guess it makes sense they'd be doing something other than huddling together and praying for the storm to leave them be.

As you can see, however, evening traffic returned to normal. This may be down to the 360,000 people that ended up without power, or the fact the hurricane had passed and everyone needed to get ready for work the next day.

Traffic also fluctuated by gender, with a 53 per cent increase in women visiting the site at 2am and peaking at 61 per cent at 3pm. Men on the other hand fluctuated a bit more. At 3 am they peaked a 68 per cent above average, before rapidly sinking down to 27 per cent below average at 7am. They didn't quite manage to reach their former heights, only getting as high as 34 per cent at 3pm.
