XHamster is Hell Bent on War, With its Own Porn-Watching AI

By Tom Pritchard on at

Last week Pornhub announced that it had started implementing machine learning in its service, with an AI that loves nothing more than watching porn and analysing it to identify porn stars. Not wanting to be out done, xHamster has revealed that it too has a porn-addicted AI, and it's totally the best one around.

There's a good chance the world will suffer some sort of cataclysmic event due to two rogue AIs going to war. Hopefully these two are too busy watching dirty videos to bother fighting. Just make sure they're kept well away from the comments section.

The site claims it is the first company to offer an AI with full functional facial recognition, using facial and hair colour recognition technology to aid people in their search for new videos.

Saying it's the first doesn't seem quite accurate, since Pornhub's AI is already doing its thing. Though xHamster's is focussing on the AI as a tool for improving search capabilities, while Pornhub's is all about correctly tagging and categorising the videos. Despite the difference in explanation, I suppose both will have the same eventual outcome.

What xHamster's does have, however, is a much bigger database of AI-scanned videos. Apparently the bot has already indexed a million videos, and can recognise 30,000 performers. Pornhub's can only identify 10,000 stars at the moment, with half a million videos already indexed. While it promises to scan the entire 5 million-strong library in the next 12 months, it seems to be a little bit behind at the moment.

xHamster has promised journalists that anyone willing to check out the superiority of it search system, and even challenged Pornhub to prove its system was better. Apparently they "shrunk away from the challenge", so don't expect there to be any porn-based AI wars quite yet. Still, they're probably not far off, but hopefully they're too busy watching porn to get anything major done. [xHamster (NSFW)]
