Sad news for Brits this afternoon after it has been confirmed that Keith Chegwin has died following a long illness.
Chegwin - or Cheggers, as he was known - started his career in the theatre but found mainstream fame in the mid-70s on Saturday morning kids show Swap Shop and when presenting the eponymous Cheggers Plays Pop. In the 90s, his became known for being the roving correspondent on The Big Breakfast, appearing around the country in the early hours of the morning, knocking on the doors of unsuspecting households and putting them live on TV. He would later do the same sort of thing for GMTV.
In 2000, he infamously presented the one-off nudist gameshow Naked Jungle. We do not recommend Googling that.
Here he is trying to wake up Steve Coogan:
And here he is more recently on Celebrity Big Brother owning tedious controversial Katie Hopkins.
And here's an intriguing piece of 90s TV ephemera: Here's Cheggers breaking into GMTV while live on Channel 4.
We'll let you disappear down a YouTube rabbit-hole now. We're certainly going to.
