Lamborghini Wants in on the School Run SUV Market

By Gary Cutlack on at

Lamborghini's built something that's basically a posh take on the Nissan Qashqai or any or the other billion chunky "off road" SUVs out there waiting where cars aren't supposed to wait, in the form of the Lamborghini Urus. Urus being short for Auroch, the extinct wild bull of old.

But this is no standard SUV; it's an SSUV, or Super Sport Utility Vehicle according to Lamborghini, as the company's not really known for making non-super cars and this can do nearly 190 mph. Any kid in the back is going to get yogurt blasted into its face when this thing takes off.

As well as the entire concept of Lamborghini making a hatchback, what's additionally heretical about the car's makeup is the engine position, which has been shifted to the front of the car to make more room for seats and a boot. It'll be the last place Jeremy Clarkson thinks of looking for a Lamborghini engine. He'll probably think it's electric until he goes to put his suitcase away under the bonnet.

The Urus will be a bit noisy and might not be allowed outside schools in certain polluted areas because of its 4.0 litre V8 twin-turbo engine, mind, plus it's unlikely the 189.5 mph top speed is ever likely to be hit when it's being bounced over mini roundabouts in Harrogate. [Lamborghini via New Atlas]
