The other day we learned that the Samsung Galaxy S9 is set to be released next month, probably at MWC, so that means the rumour mill doesn't have long to spoil everything for us. Clearly not wanting to be outdone, it's gone ahead and given us a shot of what is alleged to be the Galaxy S9's box, complete with a list of hardware specs.
The box appeared on Reddit, showing off the list that includes a 5.6-inch QHD AMOLED display (an Infinity display, from the looks of things), a 12MP rear camera with OIS, an 8MP front camera, IP68 water and dust resistance, an iris scanner, 65GB of storage, 4GB of RAM, wireless charging, and AKG earbuds.
It also includes stereo speakers, at long fucking last. That's way, way overdue, since most high-end Android phone started including dual speakers over four years ago.
Honestly those specs don't sound that great, in fact those base stats are almost identical to those of the Galaxy S8 that was released over a year ago. The camera is a big difference, though, with variable F1.5/F2.4 aperture, so presumably that's going to be one of Samsung's big selling points. There's no mention of a dual camera here, but according to leaks that's a feature reserved for the Galaxy S9+.
There's still a lot of information not here, like the chipset and new fancy features, so we'll have to wait for that before we make any major judgements about what the S9 has to offer.
