Exciting news for fans of pub quizzes - now you don't even need to leave your house or see your friends to get your quizzing fix. HQ Trivia is an app which basically does what we all wanted "interactive TV" to do in the 90s: a real time quiz with you against thousands of other players, competing for real cash prizes.
The way it works is that a notification pings up on your phone a few minutes before each game starts, giving you a chance to get on board. Then you join a stream hosted by a real human presenter - in Britain's case, Sharon Carpenter, who provides the slightly awkward talking-to-herself bants throughout the game.
The game is simple: All you have to do is answer 12 trivia questions correctly in a row, and the cash pot - which in last night's game was $2500 is shared between players who reach the end of the game. Once you've earned $20 or more, you can apparently cash out instantly via PayPal.
Last night's opening game, which took place at 9pm, had around 6,000 players and questions ranged from the royal family to South American board games, before this author crashed out of the game in a rage.
It's unclear exactly how regular new games will be - though they will apparently be "timed for UK audiences".
The app is available for download now on iOS and Android.
