Tesco Wants its Staff to Start Eating Leftover Food

By Gary Cutlack on at

Tesco's had an idea about what to do with the spare food that it can't even give away to food charities — get its workers to eat it all.

That's the thinking behind the establishment of special on-site "Colleague Shops" at all of its UK stores, where staff will soon be able to buy unwanted food for the bargain price of 1p per item. The supermarket stresses that this deal will only include food that won't be taken by local food charities and community groups, so would've been binned anyway.

It's part of a push Tesco's doing so that it can say it produces zero food waste across its network, as long as its workers start to do their bit by having stale doughnuts for dinner every day. [The Grocer]
