Comedy Central's On-Demand App is Hitting the UK, and Virgin Customers Get it First

By Tom Pritchard on at

For once we bring you news that Virgin TV customers are not at risk of having some of their channels stripped away from them. Following UKTV channels being pulled from the television provider's service, and ITV almost meeting the same fate, it's been announced that Virgin TV customers will be the first people in the UK to get access to Comedy Central Play.

The caveat here is that this is only available to subscribers who have paid for a package that includes the main Comedy Central channel, so there will be people out there who will just have to go without. Sort of. The app is available for everyone, but only video clips and short content will be available for most people. Only Virgin TV customers can watch full episodes, though, and the app has a 'sign in with your TV provider' screen that blocks access.

Arran Tindall, SVP, Commercial and Content Distribution, Viacom International Media Networks said:

“Launching the Comedy Central Play app in the UK for the first time is an exciting move for us as it reflects our continued commitment to expanding our branded apps presence in the market. We’re pleased to once again be joining forces with Virgin TV to provide their customers with access to long form content on the Comedy Central Play app, giving them the choice and control they desire when viewing their favourite Comedy shows.”

You can download the app on Android and iOS. There's also no word when Virgin's exclusivity deal is up, and other people can gin access through their own TV subscription.
