Here's Our First Look at The Lego Movie 2's Lego Sets

By Tom Pritchard on at

The Lego Movie: The Second Part may not be arriving in cinemas until next February, but that doesn't mean Lego isn't going to start drumming up hype for the sequel where it can. Ahead of San Diego Comic Con this weekend, Lego has gone and shown us some of the upcoming sets that will be released to tie in with the film. It may be slightly early, but who really cares about that?

First up we have the San Diego Comic Con-exclusive Apocalypseburg Unikitty, continuing the Lego Movie sets' long tradition of producing a different unicorn-cat for every set. It's also a San Diego Comic Con exclusive, which puts it out of reach of most people, especially outside of the US. If you want to get your hands on this expect to pay a fortune for it on eBay.

But now onto the proper sets that regular people will be able to buy for normal, not unreasonable prices. Not unreasonable for Lego, I assume anyway. Three of these have been revealed, and the first one is 70830 Sweet Mayhem’s Systar Starship:

Help Emmet and Lucy evade capture by THE LEGO MOVIE 2 70830 Sweet Mayhem’s Systar Starship toy, featuring an opening cockpit for a mini-doll or minifigure, retractable landing gear, disc shooter and an opening prison cell. This fun construction toy includes 2 minifigures a mini doll figure and buildable Star and Heart toy figures to role-play action from THE LEGO MOVIE 2.

Included, as you can see, it's Sweet Mayhem's spaceship (as seen in the recent trailer) along with Sweet Mayhem herself - who takes the form of a Lego Friends-style mini-doll complete with posable wings. It also comes with Wyldstyle and Emmett, along with buildable star and heart characters and various bits of weaponry. Price is still TBA.

Next we have 70827 Ultrakatty & Warrior Lucy! and no that's not a typo, it seems this version of Unikitty is indeed spelled slightly differently. She's also much, much larger.

Ride into battle against the alien with THE LEGO MOVIE 2 70827 Ultrakatty & Warrior Lucy! and rescue Emmet. Ultrakatty features a minifigure cockpit, a posable head which can be rebuilt for three alternative facial expressions, and a posable tail and legs. This awesome building toy includes Lucy and Emmet minifigures, plus a brick-built alien invader with a chomping mouth and rotating eye, to recreate action-packed scenes from THE LEGO MOVIE 2.

It the descriptions are anything to go by Wyldstyle will be going by Lucy for the whole film, and that this minifigure is almost identical to the one included with Sweet Mayhem's ship. There's also a buildable Duplo alien figure, showing we will be seeing the aftermath of the Duplo invasion at the end of the first film. This one will cost $29.99 (UK price TBA)

Finally we have a new vehicle in the form of Lucy's monster truck, 70829 Emmet and Lucy’s Escape Buggy

Drive away from danger in THE LEGO MOVIE 2 70829 Emmet and Lucy’s Escape Buggy, featuring seats for two minifigures, opening doors and hood, foldout arrow gun (non-shooting) and suspension. This fun-packed construction toy also includes a buildable base with an explode function, three minifigures and three buildable figures—MetalBeard, Star and Heart—with cool weapons and accessory elements.

Includes three LEGO MOVIE characters: a LEGO Emmet minfigure, Lucy minfigure and Sharkia minifigure, plus three brick-built figures: MetalBeard, Star and Heart.

Metalbeard has somehow lost his entire body in the five years since the first film, and we have a brand new character called Sharkia that we know almost nothing about. This one is priced $49.99 (UK price TBA).

All these sets will be out in January, barring the SDCC Unikitty, which obviously will be available from this weekend. We'll probably hear a lot about other sets in the coming months, so keep an eye out. [Brick Fanatics 1 | 2 | 3 | 4]
