YouGov is Handling the Heatwave by Working Out Britain's Favourite Ice Lolly

By Tom Pritchard on at

It's hot. Too hot. Especially inside where we don't have the luxury of air conditioning. What's the best and most delicious way to cool off? With an ice lolly, naturally. The problem is deciding which one to have, since there are so many and everyone has their own opinion on which one is best. If you'd rather go with the flow, you may want to pay attention to YouGov's latest poll which worked out which lollies are the most popular.

As it turns out the clear winner is the Magnum, which definitely counts even though it's made from ice cream. 28 per cent of respondents chose it as their favourite, thrashing the rest of the competition. Second place was the Twister, which only got 8 per cent of the vote, followed by Solero (8%), Twister (7%), and Feast (6%). Weirdly the most famous Cornetto was in eighth place, having only received 3 per cent of the vote. Clearly the Brits don't all agree with Simon Pegg.

Interestingly the older generations are the ones skewing the results in the Magnum's favour. Only 12 per cent of 18-24 year olds voted it their favourite, compared to 42 per cent of respondents over 65 and 39 per cent of those aged 50-64. Magnyum was the most popular single lolly amongst the 18-24 year olds and 25-49 year olds, but their taste seemed to be a lot more varied. Still very little love for the Cornetto, though.

So if you want to follow the pack, grab yourself a few packs of Magnums while the weather is like this.  If you'd rather pick something a little less mainstream, you can see the full results of the survey here. [YouGov]
