Analyst Suggests iPad Pro 3 Might Have USB-C Instead of Lightning

By Kim Snaith on at

As reported by Macrumors, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said that Apple's next new iPad, the iPad Pro 3 might ditch its proprietary Lightning connector and replace it with standard USB-C. Kuo also said that an 18W power adaptor would come in the box alongside the iPad. We only have his word for it right now, but Kuo has a pretty strong track record when it comes to Apple predictions.

However, despite Kuo's prediction about the iPad Pro 3, he does not think the same USB-C treatment will be given to this year's new iPhone models. According to his report, they will continue to use a Lightning connector instead.

Apple moving away from its proprietary connection to use USB-C would be a major step, allowing users to swap out expensive Apple-branded chargers and cables with cheaper, generic replacements. Whether Ming-Chi Kuo is right remains to be seen, but we'll find out for sure at tomorrow's Apple Special Event. Starting at 6pm, we'll have the latest announcements right here on Giz.
