Here Are The Best iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max UK Contract Deals

By Kim Snaith on at

The day is here: the day that iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max can be pre-ordered. If you're lucky and act fast, you'll be able to get your hands on Apple's latest handset next Friday, 21st September, when it officially releases.

You can buy either of the handsets outright from Apple – the iPhone XS starts at £999, and the iPhone XS Max starts at £1,099. But if you're looking to spread the cost and bag a new contract at the same time, here are the best deals available with UK networks.

Unless stated, all contracts are 24 months.

iPhone XS on Vodafone

If you've got an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus to trade in, Virgin has some fairly decent offers available on the iPhone XS, 64GB edition. Trading in your old iPhone will let you get the Red Extra package – which includes 26GB of data and unlimited minutes and texts – for £56 a month, with a £29 upfront fee. If you need more data, the Red Entertainment package gives you 42GB, plus a free 24-month subscription to either Amazon Prime Video, Spotify, Now TV Entertainment or Sky Sports Mobile. If you trade in an iPhone 7/7 Plus, that plan will cost £63 a month with a £29 upfront fee.

If you don't have an iPhone to trade in, then those plans will cost an extra £10 each. Red Extra is £66 a month, and Red Entertainment is £73 a month. Both still incur a £29 upfront fee.

If you want the iPhone XS with more storage, the 256GB handset has a £99 upfront fee for those same plans, with an extra £4 a month.

The 512GB handset has slightly different plans. With an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus to trade in, you can get 50GB of data for £72 a month, with a £249(!) upfront fee. Vodafone's Red Entertainment package, this time with 70GB of data, will cost £79 a month, with an £199 upfront fee. Without an iPhone to trade in, those upfront costs are the same, and the monthly price goes up by £10.

The Cheapest Monthly iPhone XS contract on Vodafone

If you can somehow cope with a paltry 1GB of data, the cheapest contract on a 64GB iPhone XS will cost you £54 a month, but there's a £199 upfront cost with that (total price: £1,495).

The Best Value Deals for iPhone XS on Vodafone

With an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus to trade in:

  • 64GB model: 26GB of data - £56 a month, £29 upfront (total price: £1,373)
  • 256GB model: 26GB of data - £60 a month, £99 upfront (total price: £1,539)
  • 512GB model: 50GB of data - £72 a month, £249 upfront (total price: £1,977)

  • 512GB model: 26GB of data - £76 a month, £299 upfront (total price: £2,123)

iPhone XS Max on Vodafone

Vodafone is offering similar deals on the iPhone XS Max as the standard XS. You'll pay a little more upfront, and a few pounds more each month depending on your contract. The best deals still seem to be the 26GB Red Extra and the 42GB Red Entertainment packages, though. For a 64GB iPhone XS Max, you'll pay a £79 upfront fee. If you're trading in your old iPhone 7, the 26GB Red Extra plan will cost £60 a month. The 42GB Red Entertainment with free streaming subscription will cost £67 a month. Without that handset to trade in, the plans are the same, but you'll be paying an extra £10 a month.

If you need a handset with bigger storage capacity, you can get a 256GB handset with 50GB of data a month for £72 per month plus a £99 upgrade fee, providing you've got an iPhone 7 to trade in. Again, without the trade-in, the monthly fee goes up by £10. If you're happy to pay a little more upfront – £179 – with no trade-in you can get the 26GB Red Extra plan for £76 a month.

If you need the largest capacity iPhone XS Max with 512GB of storage, you can get the 50GB monthly plan with a trade-in for £72 a month, plus £299 upfront, or the 70GB Entertainment plan for £79 a month with £249 upfront. Again, without a trade-in, those same plans are available for an extra £10 a month.

If you want an iPhone XS Max on Virgin but with the lowest possible monthly bill, the 64GB handset is available for £58 a month, but with a £269 upfront cost. That plan only comes with 1GB of data, though. (Total cost: £1,661)

iPhone XS on Virgin

Virgin looks to be offering some of the cheapest iPhone XS offers of all the networks – if you're happy to sign up for a contract for 36 months, that is. If you're not bothered about data, you can get 64GB handset on a 1GB package with no upfront cost for just £41. That's with 1,000 minutes of calls and unlimited text. There are currently some special offers on too, so you can get 50GB of data for the usual price of 10GB - that's £50 a month. On a standard two-year contract, the 50GB of data bundle costs £67.50 a month, which still works out cheaper overall.

A 256GB handset will cost £73.50 a month for 50GB on a 24-month contract. Again, that's with no upfront fee. If you want to go for maximum storage, the same contract with a 512GB handset will cost £82.50 a month.

iPhone XS Max on Virgin

As with the iPhone XS, you can cut the monthly price of an iPhone XS Max on Virgin if you're willing to sign up for a three-year contract – plans with no upfront fees start at just £46 a month for the 64GB handset. But if you'd rather stick with a standard 24 month contract, then the offers are comparable to the iPhone XS. Again, at the moment Virgin is offering 5x data if you opt for the 10GB plan, meaning you'll get 50GB for the same price. For the 64GB iPhone XS Max, that means you'll pay £75 a month for 50GB of data.

A 256GB handset will cost £81 a month for 50GB on a 24-month contract. Again, that's with no upfront fee. If you want to go for maximum storage, the same contract with a 512GB handset will cost £90 a month.

iPhone XS on Sky Mobile

Sky mobile does things slightly differently – you'll pay one monthly fee for the handset, and another for data. Calls and texts are free if you're an existing Sky customer. Their plans are a little more complicated, too. Called Swap12 and Swap24, don't be fooled into thinking they're 12 month and 24 month contracts. Swap12 is actually a 24-month contract – it just means that after 12 months, you can pay a lump sum to change your handset early. And Swap24 is actually a 30 month contract.

We've priced up the Swap24 tariffs for each of the phones, though, because it does seem to offer the best value overall.

For the iPhone XS with 64GB, you'll be paying £37 a month for the handset with no upfront fee. The cheapest plan available is 1GB a month, which costs an extra £6, making the whole thing £43 a month. The highest data package available from Sky Mobile is 20GB, which costs £20 a month. That makes an iPhone XS 64GB £57 a month.

If you'd like a handset with more storage, the 256GB iPhone XS will cost £42 a month with a paltry £12 upfront, and the 512GB handset is £50 a month with £12 upfront. The data plans remain the same.

You can have a 64GB handset with 1GB of data from Sky Mobile for £43 a month if you're happy to pay over 30 months (total cost: £1,290).  If you already have a Sky Mobile plan, you can have the handset by itself for £37 a month (total cost: £1,110).

  • 256GB model: 20GB of data - £62 a month, £12 upfront (total price: £1,872)
  • 512GB model: 20GB of data - £70 a month, £12 upfront (total price: £2,112)

iPhone XS Max on Sky Mobile

The data plans for an iPhone XS Max on Sky Mobile are exactly the same as the XS; you'll just pay a little more for the handset. Again, we'll be looking at the Swap24 plan, which is a 30-month contract.

A 64GB XS Max with 20GB of data will cost £61 a month, with no upfront cost. If you need more storage, a 256GB handset will push the cost up by £5 to £66 a month, with a £12 upfront cost.

iPhone XS on Three

No matter what plan you choose with Three, you'll be paying at least a £99 upfront cost for an iPhone XS. However, don't get caught out with their plans. You can get unlimited data – "all-you-can-eat" as they call it – for less than a 30GB bundle, and for the same price as an 8GB data. This doesn't make a great deal of sense to us, so it's possible the price is either incorrect or a limited special offer, but it isn't marked as such.

Basically, it means you can get a 64GB iPhone XS for £49 a month with a ridiculously small 500MB of data... but for an extra £10 a month you can get All-you-can-eat data. And according to Three's FAQ, it really is all-you-can-eat, too. When unlimited data is so cheap, we're not even going to consider any of the other packages available.

It actually works out a little cheaper to opt to pay £250 upfront and get a lower monthly rate with Three's offers, however. Paying £250 upfront reduces the all-you-can-eat data plan on the 64 handset to £52, which over the course of two years works out at just a tiny bit cheaper. But if paying less in one go is more important to you, you'll only be paying £17 more over the course of a year, which is nominal.

You can have a 64GB handset with 500MB of data from Three for £42 a month if you cough up £250 upfront (total cost: £1,275). But... don't. 500MB is nowhere near enough data.

The Best Value Deals for iPhone XS on Three

  • 64GB model: Unlimited data - £52 a month, £250 upfront (total price: £1,498)
  • 256GB model: Unlimited data - £57 a month, £250 upfront (total price: £1,618)
  • 512GB model: Unlimited data - £64 a month, £250 upfront (total price: £1,786)

iPhone XS Max on Three

Like the iPhone XS, the best deal by far is to opt for the all-you-can eat data package with Three. You can pay either £250 or £99 upfront, and again, paying a little more upfront will slightly reduce the overall cost of the package. For a 64GB handset, you'll be paying either £250 upfront and £57 a month, or £99 upfront and £64

iPhone XS on O2

Thanks to O2 rolling out their new custom plan feature, it means that there's basically unlimited options when it comes to iPhone XS contracts. We've played around with a few options, but we've stuck with a standard 24-month contract, as it makes it more comparable to other networks.

If you don't want to pay anything upfront, an iPhone XS with 64GB memory will cost £76 a month on a 20GB data package. Up that data t0 100GB, and you'll pay £84 a month. Paying £200 upfront will offset the monthly cost a little, and 20GB of monthly data will cost £67.67 instead.

The same 20GB data package with a 256GB handset will cost £81.50 with a £30 upfront cost – £30 is the minimum upfront cost you can select. Pay £250 upfront, and it reduces your monthly cost to £72.34. The 512GB handset also requires an upfront cost of £30, and a 20GB package will cost £90.92. Choosing 100GB of data ups that monthly cost to £98.92. Phew.

For the best deals, it's a little subjective, because it depends how much data you need. But since the jump from 20GB to 50GB is only £4, we've opted to go for the 50GB plans as the best value here.

The Cheapest Monthly iPhone XS contract on O2

With O2's custom plan feature, you can basically pay for the entire cost of the handset upfront. But that sort of defeats the object. We settled for £250 upfront, and a contract over 36 months. With 2GB data (which is the minimum offered by O2), you'll be paying £48.39 a month for a 64GB handset. Total cost? £1992.04. Phew.

  • 64GB model: 50GB data - £78.75 a month, £30 upfront (total price: £1,920)
  • 256GB model: 50GB data - £85.50 a month, £30 upfront (total price: £2,082)
  • 512GB model: 50GB data - £94.92 a month, £30 upfront (total price: £2,308.08)

iPhone XS Max on O2

Again, thanks to O2's custom plan feature, there are basically unlimited options when it comes to iPhone XS Max contracts. Again, we've stuck with a 24-month contract, and gone with 50GB of data for the best value deal.

A 64GB iPhone XS Max handset with 20GB of data will cost £79.25 a month with a £30 upfront cost. An extra 30GB of data raises the cost by £4. Maxing out the handset's storage capacity to 512GB makes the same 20GB data package £95.42 a month.

iPhone XS on EE

EE promises the best 4G coverage of any network, with the fastest speeds – but its contract prices are also some of the highest to compensate for that. The best value plan offers a 64GB iPhone XS with 100GB of data for £83 a month, with just a £10 upfront cost. The cheapest plan is £68 a month, which comes with 4GB of data - the lowest data amount available, but you'll need to pay £70 upfront for that. There's also 20GB of data available for £78 a month, but for that it makes sense to pay an extra £5 to get five times as much.

If you want a bigger capacity handset, the 100GB data plan on a 256GB iPhone XS is £88 a month with £40 upfront, and the 512GB handset will set you back £98 a month with £10 upfront.

iPhone XS on BT Mobile

BT Mobile offer an extra £5 off for customers that have BT broadband, but the prices we're quoting are for new customers. So if you happen to have BT broadband, deduct an extra £5 a month from the price. BT offers a few freebies too. All plans over 6GB come with a free subscription to BT Sport, so if you're a sports fan that adds some extra value. And all plans minus the cheapest 'Starter Plan', come with a free reward card – a pre-loaded Mastercard. The value of the card depends on what package you choose.

The biggest data package offered by BT is the 'Max Plan', which gives 60GB of data, unlimited texts and minutes. A 64GB iPhone XS will cost £86 a month on this plan, with £10 upfront. Opt instead for the largest 512GB handset and that monthly price only rises to £89, but you'll need to pay £170 upfront. That plan comes with a £110 reward card.

If tonnes of data isn't majorly important to you, you can have 6GB of data on a 64GB handset for £70, plus £55 upfront. The 512GB handset ups the monthly cost to £75, plus £220 upfront. That plan comes with a £70 reward card.
