A couple of says ago a picture purporting to be the OnePlus 6T's retail box leaked, teasing up with the design for the upcoming handset. Now, though, we've got our first proper look at the phone, with an images alleging to be the new device hitting Chinese social network Vivo. In short, we've got a smaller notch and a triple-lens camera system on the back.
As many have suspected, this phone looks remarkably like the Oppo R17. Pundits have noted that in the past whenever Oppo releases phone with a new design or feature set, the affiliated OnePlus isn't usually too far behind. So when the R17 came out showcasing the teardop notch, as seen on the likes of the Essential Phone, and a triple-lens camera system, there was immediate speculation that these features may make it to the 6T. If this leak is accurate, it seems as though they were right.
As rumoured this image doesn't feature a prominent fingerprint scanner, suggesting that the 6T will also include one of the in-display fingerprint scanner that are now all the rage with Chinese phonemakers.
All of this hinges on the image not being an elaborate fake, however. The Oppo R17 has been around for a while, and it wouldn't be too difficult to find some official renders and Photoshop in some OnePlus branding to try and sell the idea that the two phones are almost identical. We're just going to have to wait and see. Current rumours suggest that the OnePlus 6T will launch next month, but there's also precedent for a November launch which isn't all that unlikely either.
Whatever the launch date is, we're bound to start seeing a lot more leaks hitting the web over the next several weeks. We'll bring you more about the OnePlus 6T when we have it. [Slashgear]
