The Huawei Mate 20 Pro Turns Toys Into Dancing Nightmare Hellspawn

By Holly Brockwell on at

At the launch for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, with its three rear cameras and in-screen fingerprint reader, the phone manufacturer showed off a cool new feature: 3D scanning.

The demo involved scanning in a panda toy, which was then rendered in 3D, animated, and even brought out on stage in AR for a selfie.

It all worked pretty flawlessly during the demo, but we're now wondering if that was staged, because the feature has finally rolled out to phones (it wasn't available at launch) and the results are absolute nightmare material. Also really, really funny.

Sami Mughal of OxGadgets tried scanning his daughter's toy:

Yikes.

Meanwhile, Craig Bradshaw of Mobile Tech Talk gave it a go with Winnie the Pooh:

And a Funko Pop:

With even worse (or better, hilarity-wise) results.

Of course, if you're making a low-budget horror movie, this is pretty much your dream feature.

A YouTuber called Kai has been having a whale of a time making different kinds of meat dance:

The feature is basically internet gold. Probably not what Huawei was going for, but we're excited for the memes nonetheless.
