Dubai Airport Suspends Flights Due to Real/Imaginary Drone Sightings

By Gary Cutlack on at

The drone menace has gone international, with flights at Dubai International Airport – only home to the world's busiest international terminals – suspended this morning due to reports of rogue drones in the area.

Flights were only offline for just over half an hour, mind, so authorities must've decided it either wasn't a drone and people were being paranoid, or ordered all the fliers to carry on regardless while hoping it was only a cheaper plastic model that'd disintegrate upon impact like a seagull or party balloon.

People stuck on flights in the area suddenly found themselves in the luxurious position of having something to tweet about, with plenty of fliers moaning about being stranded on the tarmac for "ages" -- even though a 30-minute sit-around on the runway is usually about the norm these days. That's barely enough time to size up and rate the cabin crew. [Standard]
