Netflix Taps 'Yes' on More Bandersnatch-Style Shows

Netflix doesn't release its viewing figures, but the amount of talk, thinkpieces, decision trees and meme creation surrounding the Bandersnatch episode of Black Mirror strongly suggests it was very popular.

The streaming platform's latest announcement does too: Netflix will apparently be jumping into choose-your-own-adventure shows with both feet.

VP of Product Todd Yellin loudly told a media conference in Mumbai this week that Bandersnatch has been a mega-hit for the company and has resulted in lots more investment in interactive content.

No doubt the fact that Netflix gets a tonne of user data out of this kind of show was a big factor too -- how better to inform future creative choices than with thousands of watchers telling you what they want to see?

It's not just going to be Bandersnatch 2, though – Yellin also shouted about other types of content the platform is considering:

"It could be a wacky comedy. It could be a romance, where the audience gets to choose, should she go out with him or him."

Bit heteronormative, innit? Surely a binary or even multi-branch decision tree would lend itself perfectly to a dating show like Courtney Act's The Bi Life or something exploring the complex networks of polyamorous folks?

Actually, now we're envisaging choose-your-own Queer Eye, in which you get to decide which of the outfits in the fancypants shirt shop the scruffy dude is going to try on, and what he's going to cook with just three ingredients and the godlike skills of Antoni Porowski.

OK, we're on board. Bandersnatch ALL the things. [Engadget]
