Microsoft's higher-end tablet dream will be available in the UK next week, with Microsoft giving the folding tab a May 23 launch date. The Surface Pro will cost a stonking great £719 for the 64GB Core i5 Windows 8 machine, rising to £799 if you'd prefer the 128GB unit. You might want to read our Surface Pro review before investing that sort of life-changing sum in a thing to use to look at Twitter. [Microsoft Store] Read More >>

The sheer audacity of Windows 8 was enough to set it apart. It was startling, the kind of uncompromising upheaval you almost never see from a frontrunner. Despite obvious missteps — big, idiotic, self-inflicted ones, more often than not — it always gave the sense that it was just wrong-footed, correctable stuff, never cause for a total retreat. Except, if recentreports are to be believed, that's just what Microsoft seems to be doing. Retreating. And we really hope it doesn’t. Read More >>

This morning, I was in the middle of a proper writing groove -- coffee brewed, tunes blaring and email inbox set to off -- and all was looking well. Third story of the morning, here I come! But no. Windows had decided, in its infinite wisdom, that its arse-shagging auto-updates were more important, so it restarted on me. Bastards. Read More >>
Microsoft's Windows 8 and RT tablets have seemingly got off to a bit of a flyer, with number crunchers estimating Windows is now the OS on 7.4 per cent of all portable tabs. Not a bad beginning given the fashionable and cheap Apple and Android onslaught. Read More >>
We've waited long enough. After getting Microsoft's Surface RT late, we're finally going to get its bigger brother, the fully-fledged Surface Pro, but not until the end of May. Well, before the end of May, but that normally means May 31st. Is it too much future too soon? We can't wait to find out for ourselves. [Microsoft] Read More >>

Windows 8 is like Marmite. Some people love it, many, many people hate it. And while I personally quite like it, it certainly has its quirks, especially when you're using it without a touchscreen. It seems Microsoft might be backtracking a bit. Windows 8.1, aka 'Blue', might come with a Start button and could boot straight into the desktop, skirting the Start screen. Read More >>
