Government Ploughs £50m into Graphene-Based Future

By Sam Gibbs on at

Graphene, that fabled 21st Century 'miracle material' made from graphite has just got a boost from Osborne's £50 million pledge of our hard earned taxes for further research.

For £50m we better be getting our money's worth considering how strapped for cash the government is right now, but British-discovered graphene promises a lot -- faster internet, wearable computers, ultrathin gizmos -- all without the need for those precious and scarce rare earth elements. Now the BBC might be overblowing it with statements like "the next age is the graphene age", but hell, I'm all for it if graphene finally gives me that ultrathin, flexible iPhone 8 I've been craving.
