Around 150 Police Officers Disciplined Over Facebook Use

By Gary Cutlack on at

Stats obtained through a freedom of information request show that two police officers were sacked because of their Facebook interactions, while seven quit and around 150 were the subject of investigations due to their social network contact over the last four years.

According to the data dug out by the Press Association, the complaints include officers caught using the social network to "harass former partners and ex-colleagues, to comment on others' wives, and to suggest they had beaten up members of the public during protests."

Some were also caught trying to befriend crime victims, revealing information of police operations and were shown in "inappropriate" photos. [PA via Guardian]
