Mobile publisher Gameloft has achieved a first of sorts, claiming its Google+ version of GT Racing: Motor Academy is the first ever "3D HTML5 racing title."
The Google+ version of the racing game supports players using Chrome or Firefox, plus it comes with a list of tech requirements -- a minimum of a 1.8GHz dual-core processor and 512MB video card are recommended.
There's also a large pre-launch data download to get it running, too, which on our rather slow connection, means races and events take several minutes to load. It's one of those things that seems like a good idea, and is clearly very worthy and technically impressive. Then you give up on it when it hasn't started working after 30 seconds.
If you do stick with it to completion, GT Racing is a "freemium" title on Google+, so you may be prompted to pay to buy credit and in-game XP to unlock some features the easy way. [Gameloft via The Verge]
