Chalk this up to either utter stupidity, or criminal intent -- a man who won a Lamborghini Murcielago (lime green of course) from a petrol station "Joe Schmo to Lamborghini" competition, managed to smash it up within six hours of getting the keys. But did he crash it on purpose?
The story goes that David Dopp entered the competition in Utah without reading the fine print. While he was ecstatic about wining the Italian hypercar, he wasn't too chuffed when he discovered he'd have to fork out £64,000 in taxes for the privilege -- taxes he didn't have. Dopp even asked Jay Leno to buy it off him, but then promptly crashed the fully insured car. Jalopnik speculates that Dopp may have attempted to total the car to get the £200,000 insurance money, paying off his rather large tax bill.
Whichever way you spin it, wining a Lambo is awesome -- crashing it within six hours is just plain galling. I'm not sure I could bring myself to intentionally smash-up a fine machine like that; then again I'm not faced with a £64,000 tax bill. Ouch. [Jalopnik]
