Google has plans to launch an own-brand Android tablet some time later this year, with one analyst claiming the search giant has been secretly assembling a 7" model.
Richard Shim is the man who's put his reputation on the line with this one. He's an analyst with DisplaySearch and he believes that Google's ready to announce a 7" device with a 1280x800 display. But that's about all that Shim knows about Google's plans, as he said: "I don't know how they plan on marketing it. If it's going to be a premium device, or if it's going to be a Kindle Fire type competitor."
Given that Google recently got the official nod to complete its buyout of Motorola and now already owns its former rival's Xoom tablet range and manufacturing know-how, it doesn't requite a huge leap of the imagination to guess this may well be on the cards for 2012. [Cnet]
