Take Your Twitter Back to the 1870s With the Twittertape Machine

By Sam Gibbs on at

You love Twitter (doesn’t everyone?), but you think it’s just a tad too modern. How about checking your Twitter 1870s style with the magnificent Twittertape Machine.

All you need is to hook it up to power and an ethernet cable and watch it go. It’ll print out a permanent record of your tweets and @ mentions, so you don’t even have to look at a screen. It should even make that satisfying ticker-tick sound too, really taking you back in time.

Adam Vaughan's awesome looking Twittertape machine is set for a Wi-Fi upgrade for version two, which will also allow you to get it to spit out RSS and other feeds as well as Twitter, just like the stock updates of the late 1800s and early 1900s. I can’t see it being particularly environmentally friendly, especially if you happen to follow thousands of people, but hell – this is the kind of retro that would simply look amazing on your desk next to your beastly 30-inch monitor. I want one, if only for the background ticker hum. Now how do you reply in 1900s style? Punched cards? [Twittertape Machine]
