This weekend saw the Home Office web site taken offline, thanks to coordinated attacks by the Anonymous collective. Designed to highlight the UK's controversial extradition laws, the attacks will continue every Saturday night. Which we'd much rather watch unfold than The Voice.
This weekend's attack was heavily trailed in advance using the tag "#OpTrialAtHome" on Twitter. It now looks like it'll be a regular weekend fun activity for all, with Anonymous tweeting: "Expect a DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) every Saturday on the UK Government sites."
In its defence, the government said: "This is a public-facing website and no sensitive information is held on it. There is no indication that the site was hacked and other Home Office systems were not affected." [Telegraph]
