The idea behind Glancee is to use your mobile's location data and Facebook account, combining the two to suggest people you know who are nearby. Facebook liked the concept and, as it did with Instagram, has just bought it.
A statement on Glancee's web site says the makers of the app have "joined the team" at Facebook's software development HQ, while the mobile app has been deleted from both Google's Play Store and iTunes, so Facebook can do what it wishes with the technology in private.
Although, perhaps the main reason for pulling it might be to mask the public opinion of the app, as the cached iTunes listing shows Glancee for iOS had acquired only nine user reviews, averaging a score of 2/5, at the end of April. [Glancee via WSJ]
