One of the many minor skirmishes in the Great Patent War that's unfolding between Apple and Samsung has been decided in Samsung's favour, with a Dutch court ruling that Apple infringed one of the tech company's mobile patents.
It's not amazing news for Samsung, mind, as it originally claimed Apple was illegally using four of its prized patents across its mobile hardware, but the judge only found in favour of one in this latest case. The specific patent covers Apple devices made before the iPhone 4S, including the iPad, which used an "apparatus for encoding a transport format combination indicator for a communication system."
No idea what that means. Samsung's not allowed to pursue an injunction to stop sales of iOS devices after this result, but it will be entitled to some form of financial compensation from Apple. [BBC via FOSS Patents]
