Lending some heavy weight to the recent leaks, renders and videos of the gorgeous-looking iPhone 5, it seems Apple really is working on a smaller 19-pin port for the new iPhone. Our anorexic phone lust has finally hit the ancient dock connector.
TechCrunch has managed to confirm that Apple's working up a smaller connector for the next iPhone; obviously it's concerned about size given everything else has shrunk substantially since it was first introduced on the iPod. Unfortunately, we don't know precisely what form said new port will take, but something akin to a Thunderbolt port -- maybe a mini-Thunderbolt connector -- wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility.
Smaller is always better, but it's really going to screw up anyone like me who has a whole bunch of dock connector accessories. Let's just hope a smaller size is matched with a faster speed for quicker music library syncs -- that'd take some of the sting out of it. [TechCrunch]
