Masked Man Guns Down 14 People at a Dark Knight Rises Premiere

By Sam Gibbs on at

It seems not everything Batman is good news right now. A man wearing a gasmask opened fire on cinemagoers during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises, killing 14 and wounding around 50 others.

The assault occurred at the Aurora cinemeplex in Denver, Colorado last night. Apparently a man wearing body armour first blasted the crowd with tear gas before opening fire in a random, slow and deliberate fashion, 40 minutes into the film. The police are treating this as a crime rather than terrorist attack, but it is nonetheless deeply shocking.

I'm really glad we have such tight gun laws here that help stop this kind of thing. Whatever the reason, it's blatantly a wanton act of malicious violence rather than any "curse" on the Dark Knight films. When you're sitting down to enjoy the Chris Nolan's conclusion to the Dark Knight trilogy tonight, please spare a thought for the families of those caught up in the hideous mess. [BBC]

Update: Thankfully, it seems the Telegraph thought better of its cursed Dark Knight reasoning.
